A distance-based toll makes it possible to set differentiated charges for infrastructure and other costs incurred by society as a result of road traffic. Frequent drivers pay more than occasional drivers, resulting in positive ecological and traffic steering effects. In 2010 environmentally harmful subsidies amounted to more than €52 billion. The state granted subsidies among others to the lignite industry and aviation sector. read more

UBA invites to participate in an Expert Workshop in Berlin on 24 October 2018.
