This report provides in-depth insights into the factors influencing emissions trading in the European carbon market and potential economic impacts on the market structure, based on three analyses: (i) a legal analysis of the various changes in EU financial market regulation, and their potential impact on actors in the European carbon market; (ii) an empirical analysis of actors in the EU-ETS, and (iii) the evaluation of a survey among German-based installations that are covered by the EU-ETS on their respective trading strategies, their preferred access channels to the carbon market, and their expectations for future development.
Der vorliegende Bericht erlaubt fundierte Einblicke in die Einflussfaktoren für den Handel mit Emissionsberechtigungen im Europäischen Kohlenstoffmarkt und potentielle ökonomische Auswirkungen auf die Marktstruktur, aufbauend auf drei Analysen: (i) eine juristische Analyse der verschiedenen Änderungen in der EU-Finanzmarktregulierung, und ihrer möglichen Auswirkungen auf die Akteure; (ii) eine empirische Analyse der Akteure im EU-ETS, und (iii) die Auswertung einer Befragung unter den deutschen Anlagenbetreibern, die unter den EU-ETS fallen, zu ihren jeweiligen Handelsstrategien, ihren bevorzugten Zugangskanälen zum Kohlenstoffmarkt, und ihren Erwartungen für die zukünftige Entwicklung.
