Abstract

Armenia is located in the Caucasus ecoregion, which is considered a "global biodiversity hotspot". Almost all the important natural ecosystems of the Caucasus are represented in the country. The Dilijan National Park is known for its overwhelming wealth of species, but is considered extremely endangered. The establishment of the country's first biosphere reserve (BR) is to be initiated here under the UNESCO concept "Man and Biosphere" (MaB) in order to overcome the challenges and to sustainable develope the region.
