Abstract

The eastern steppes of Mongolia are still in a largely natural state and are home to a complete inventory of native species. At the same time, the steppes are an important source of livelihood for the Mongolian population, who live from migratory grazing. In order to ensure the protection and preservation of the steppes, the Mongolian government is endeavouring to nominate the steppes as a World Heritage Site. During the course of the project, a complete dossier was developed for nomination as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and submitted in January 2024.
