For ten years now, the Federal Ecodesign Award (Bundespreis Ecodesign) has shown how environmental and climate protection, innovation and excellent design can be combined. In its anniversary year, the jury of the highest state award for ecodesign is once again on the lookout for groundbreaking concepts, services and products. Companies of all sizes and from all sectors, students and pioneers in the national and international arena are invited to apply by 12 April 2021.

Federal Environment Minister Svenja Schulze said, "The Federal Ecodesign Award has evolved into a recognised and coveted award in a decade's time. Its unique characteristic is its well-founded assessment of the ecological aspects of the contest entries by experts at the German Environment Agency. I look forward to large numbers of participants in this anniversary year 2021."

Highest government distinction for ecodesign for ten years running

The Federal Ecodesign Award of the Federal Ministry for Environment (BMU ) and the German Environment Agency (UBA ), in collaboration with the International Design Center Berlin, has promoted sustainable consumption since 2012. Since then, an expert committee has evaluated more than 2,500 contest entries and an interdisciplinary jury has nominated 269 of those entries for award. 91 outstanding projects have passed muster to receive the design award.
UBA President Professor Dirk Messner said, "We are very pleased that the Federal Ecodesign Award has become so well established over the past 10 years. We see the winning entries as examples of best practice in the context of our work." In order to conserve resources and the climate and to ensure the quality of life for future generations, we need concepts that are suitable for everyday use and creative ideas on how to live sustainability. The competition entries can be submitted in the categories Concept, Service, Product or Young Talent. What counts is design that is convincing in terms of both ecology and aesthetics.

On the occasion of the anniversary, various activities are being planned in connection with the jury meeting in September and the award ceremony on 6 December 2021 in order to publicise the topic and the good examples which emerged out of the competition.

Announcement of winning projects

Award winners will be announced at a festive event held at the Federal Ministry for Environment on 6 December 2021. Professional image trailers will be produced for award promotion purposes and made available to the award winners. In addition, there is a public touring exhibition of the winning entries. Winners of the young talent prize receive a money prize of 1000 euros each.
