Background and Goals
The climate change adaptation database from the Convention on Biodiversity (CBD) provides an excellent overview of relevant studies in the following main areas:
- Identification of vulnerable ecosystems and biodiversity (vulnerability studies)
- Estimation of risks and effects (studies on hazards for species diversity and resources to estimate hazards)
- Identification and evaluation of adaptation options (adaptation option studies)
- Implementation and monitoring of adaptation activities (case study and monitoring resources)
All studies focus on species diversity. The database can be browsed by countries, regions, hazards or effects.
The objective of the CBD adaptation database is to provide a web-based tool for integrating species diversity into adaptation, combining information and resources from a wide variety of relevant partners. This will support signatory states in integrating climate effects and adaptation measures into their implementation of the Convention on Biodiversity.

Steps in the process of adaptation to climate change
Step 1: Understand and describe climate change
different for the recorded studies
Step 2a: Identify and assess risks - climate effects and impact
Studies on the estimation of risks and effects (studies on hazards for species diversity and resources to estimate hazards)
Step 2b: Identify and assess risks - Vulnerability, risks and chances
Studies on the identification of vulnerable ecosystems and biodiversity (vulnerability studies)
Step 3: Develop and compare measures
Studies on the identification and evaluation of adaptation options
Step 5: Watch and evaluate adaptation (monitoring and evaluation)
Studies on the implementation and monitoring of adaptation activities (case study and monitoring resources)
