Background and Goals
A key goal of KlimAdapt is the bundling, processing and permanent provision of data, information, products and tools that serve to identify and implement climate change adaptation and the further development of the German adaptation strategy. KlimAdapt was set up under the leadership of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) at the Competence Center for Climate Impacts and Adaptation in the Federal Environment Agency (UBA/KomPass). Together with the Deutscher Klimadienst with an office at the Germany's National Meteorological Service (DWD), KlimAdapt is part of the two-pillar concept for an overall offer by the federal government for climate informationen and adaptation services.
A key element of KlimAdapt is the German Climate Preparedness Portal (KLiVO Portal). The KLiVO portal bundles climate protection services from federal and state authorities and state-supported third-party providers (e.g. municipalities, associations, clubs, research institutions). All services fulfil defined quality criteria: The services deal explicitly with climate change and adaptation to the effects of climate change in Germany. They have in many cases arisen as a result of research projects and have a sound scientific basis. All of the services are provided by federal institutions, in cooperation with them or were developed with state funding. You can make use of all these services without restriction and free of charge.
The KLiVO portal is accompanied by the KlimAdapt provider-user network. It supports the user-oriented further development and application of the climate adaptation services and the KLiVO portal.
